Husthwaite is a small village 18 miles north of York. It is well situated for exploring the North Yorkshire Moors, Wolds, Dales and the East Coast. There are very many pretty villages and market towns within a short distance. York has plenty to see and do for all the family – the National Railway Museum is a favourite place to spend a rainy day! The Castle Museum, Cliffords Tower, Viking Centre, York Museum and York Art Gallery are all worth a visit. Many visitors enjoy stately homes and gardens, such as Castle Howard, Beningbrough Hall, Nunnington Hall, Sledmere and Scampston – all less than 20 miles away. There are numerous pubs and restaurants, the award winning Black Swan at Oldstead being a few miles drive from the village. Visitors like the Durham Ox at Crayke, The George in Easingwold, The Fauconberg at Coxwold, The Carlton Inn at Carlton Husthwaite, the Stapylton Arms at Wass, the Old Black Bull at Raskelf and The Greyhound at Bagby. For those interested in racing, Thirsk and York racecourses have regular events. There is a rail station in Thirsk which is about 7 miles away and York station is about 18 miles.

The village pub is the Plum an Partridge a short walk down the village.

An artisan bread van visits the village green on Saturday and there is a farm shop ( open on Friday and Saturday) a short drive (or walk) away.

Easingwold is a market town about 4 miles away. It has small supermarkets, butchers, bakers, tea/coffee shops, pubs, takeaways and restaurants. Thirsk is a slightly bigger market town with a large Tesco, Aldi and Lidl and numerous shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants. There’s a petrol station on the A19 roundabout heading to Thirsk and also at the Tesco store in Thirsk.

Visitors often take a day trip to the coast – a picturesque drive across the moors to Whitby, Sandsend, Scarborough or Filey. On this route is Goathland and various stations along the North Yorkshire Steam Railway.
